Background
One Stockport is a collaborative movement bringing together Stockport Council, local businesses, health partners, voluntary organisations and residents behind a shared vision for the borough. Originally launched during the Covid pandemic to celebrate community resilience, it has grown into a long-term place brand that champions local enterprise, strengthens communities and supports Stockport's wider regeneration, investment and wellbeing ambitions.

The creative challenge
The pandemic created unprecedented uncertainty, but it also revealed extraordinary resilience, generosity and community spirit. Stockport Council and partners recognised an opportunity to harness that energy and create a unifying brand that would inspire hope, celebrate local people and encourage collective action. Working to an ambitious timescale, I was tasked with creating a distinctive brand identity, visual style, campaign assets and communications that could quickly become the public face of a movement while remaining flexible enough to support the borough's long-term vision.

Creativity with character
The strongest brands are built around genuine human stories, and this project had character in abundance.
Rather than creating a campaign that simply told people what was happening, I developed a brand identity that gave the people of Stockport a platform to tell their own stories. The visual identity, styling system and campaign assets were designed to feel optimistic, accessible and unmistakably local, reflecting the warmth, resilience and pride that emerged during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.
Working closely with community groups, charities, businesses, health organisations and local leaders, I captured and translated authentic stories into engaging campaigns that celebrated the people making a real difference. From Cheadle Mosque opening its doors to support neighbours, to the Stockport Spidermen, running through the borough during Covid to lift spirits and raise money for charity, every story reinforced the idea that extraordinary things happen when communities come together.
To extend the campaign's reach, I worked with Stockport-born actor Will Mellor, whose enthusiasm and authenticity helped amplify the initiative and connect with wider audiences. His involvement added further personality to the campaign while remaining true to the brand's community-first ethos.
