Background

Alexis Wintour is an experienced business consultant based in Jersey with decades of commercial insight and entrepreneurial expertise. She approached me to transform her manuscript into a distinctive brand that would help launch her first business book. I developed the name, book cover design, visual identity, creative direction, photography, supporting marketing assets and website, creating a memorable brand that would appeal to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners looking for practical, accessible advice.

The creative challenge

Alexis had invested years refining the content but needed a creative concept that would make the book stand out in a crowded business category. The challenge was to distil complex business thinking into a simple, engaging visual idea that reflected the book's approachable tone. Rather than producing another predictable business publication, I wanted to create a brand identity that was intelligent, memorable and instantly communicated that business doesn't have to be complicated.

Creativity with character

The breakthrough came from Alexis' original idea of a ‘business cookbook’. Exploring themes of food, simplicity and entrepreneurship led me to the phrase ‘Easy as Pie’, which became both the book's slogan and the foundation of the entire creative concept. I commissioned a baker to create a real pie, colour-coded into chart segments, before photographing it as a literal pie chart for the cover, turning a familiar business graphic into something playful and unexpected.

I extended the idea throughout the brand with food-inspired language, bespoke graphics and digital assets, including cookie-cutters for downloadable templates and an empty plate with scattered crumbs on the back cover, suggesting readers had devoured every last insight.

The result was a distinctive author brand and business book that combined strategic thinking with humour, helping the publication sell thousands of copies while giving Alexis a memorable platform for her expertise.
